Enter through the Cour Carrée
Approach through the Cour Carrée to understand the Louvre as a former palace before reaching the pyramid. The quieter courtyard also provides architectural detail that hurried visitors often miss.
Cross the Pyramid courtyard
Walk around the main pyramid and compare the historic façades with the modern glass structure. Museum admission and timed entry are separate from any exterior walking route.
Pass the Carrousel into the gardens
Continue beneath or beside the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, then enter the Tuileries. The central path is direct, while side paths offer shade, sculptures and quieter seating.
