What it is like to arrive at a pub crawl alone
I’m Amine, and I organise pub crawls in Paris. The guide’s role is to make the plan clear and help the group connect. A simple opening question about someone’s costume, where they are visiting from or how they found the event can be enough to start a conversation. You can also take your time; you are not expected to become best friends with everyone in one evening.
Before you book, check the exact meeting point and time for your ticket. For my regular crawls, the meeting point depends on the selected departure, so follow the information on the booking confirmation rather than relying on an old post. Bring valid physical ID, make sure your phone is charged and tell someone you trust where you are going.
A few details make a difference
You can participate without drinking alcohol. Just remember that the promotional shot at participating bars is tied to buying the first alcoholic drink and does not apply to soft drinks; drinks are otherwise purchased separately. If you want a social Halloween night with a ready-made group, going alone is no reason to stay home.
If you feel nervous about arriving by yourself, make the first step easy. Get there a few minutes early, tell the guide your name and say that you came solo. You can ask another guest a low-pressure question about their costume or where they are visiting from. You do not need a perfect opener. A shared activity gives you something natural to talk about.
Choose what suits you
Joining a group does not mean you have to stay for every part of the night. If you are tired or the atmosphere is not right for you, you can decide to leave. Keep your belongings with you and arrange a safe way back. Going alone can be a confident choice, and having a plan helps it feel that way.
